Differences Between Megabytes, Gigabytes, Terabytes & Petabytes, Exabytes -

Computer Terminology: Differences Between Megabytes, Gigabytes, Terabytes & Petabytes

To be sincere, many people doesn't know the differences between these storage capacities and many havn't even heard about it before, while many get so confused when dealing with the nomenclature of the memory terminology in computer world.

Lets set the words straight, shall we? Gigabytes, Terabytes and Petabytes: Which is Bigger and at what multiples?

Knowing which is bigger and which is smaller, as well as the abbreviations that represent these numbers, is probably the most helpful thing to get down. All of these computer technology storage units of measurement are based on the byte, which is the amount of storage required to store a single character of text:

An exabyte (EB) is larger than

petabyte (PB), which is larger than

terabyte (TB), which is larger than

gigabyte (GB), which is larger than

megabyte (MB), which is larger than

kilobyte (KB), which is larger than

byte (B)

Less helpful in the real world is the smaller bit (there are 8 bits in 1 byte) and the larger zettabyte and yottabyte, among some others. We won’t be sticking yottabyte size memory cards in our cameras anytime soon so consider those some impressive words to throw around at your next party.

To convert from one unit to another, just know that for every level you go up, you multiply by 1,024. Don’t worry if that’s confusing – you’ll see enough examples below that you’ll have the math down in no time.

NB: You’ll see many sources online say that each new level is 1,000 times greater than the smaller, not 1,024. While it is true in some cases, in practical terms, considering how computers use storage devices, 1,024 is the more realistic multiplier to do your calculations with.

Now on the most practical stuff…

How Many Gigabytes (GB) in a Terabyte (TB)?

There are 1,024 GB in 1 TB.
1 TB = 1,024 GB = 1,048,576 MB = 1,073,741,824 KB = 1,099,511,627,776 B.

Put another way…

A TB is 1,024 times bigger than a GB. To convert TB to GB, just take the TB number and multiply by 1,024 to get the number of GBs. To convert GB to TB, just take the GB number and divide by 1,024.

How Many Megabytes (MB) in a Gigabyte (GB)?

There are 1,024 MB in 1 GB
1 GB = 1,024 MB = 1,048,576 KB = 1,073,741,824 B.

Like in the previous example, a GB is 1,024 times bigger than a MB. To convert GB to MB, take the GB number and multiply by 1,024 to get the number of MBs. To convert MB to GB, take the MB number and divide it by 1,024.

How Big is a Terabyte?

The terabyte (TB) is the most common unit used to measure hard drive size and a number you might actually run into from time to time.

A single TB is a lot of space. It’s would take 728,177 floppy disks or 1,498 CD-ROM discs to store just 1 TB worth of information.

As of 2017, most new, average priced computer hard drives were in the 1 to 3 TB range. Many ISPs cap monthly data usage at 1 TB. The Hubble Space Telescope generates about 10 TB of new data every year. Around 130,000 digital photos would require 1 TB of space… close to 400 photos every day for a year!

IBM’s famous Watson game-playing supercomputer has 16 TB of RAM. As you saw in the GB to TB math above, 1 TB is equal to a bit more than one trillion bytes.

How Big is a Petabyte?

The petabyte (PB) is just a crazy large chunk of data but it actually comes up more and more these days.

To store a single PB would take over 745 million floppy disks or 1.5 million CD-ROM discs, clearly not an efficient way to collect a petabyte of information, but it’s fun to think about!

The movie Avatar needed about 1 PB of storage to render those graphics. It’s estimated that the human brain can store around 2.5 PB of memory data. Over 3.4 years of 24/7 Full HD video recording would be around 1 PB in size.

As of late 2016, the Wayback Machine was storing 15 PB of data! 1 PB is equivalent to over 4,000 digital photos per day, over your entire life.

A single PB is 1,024 TB… you know, that number we already established was enormous even at one! In yet a more impressive view, 1 PB is equal to over 1 quadrillion bytes!

How Big is an Exabyte?

Talking about even a single EB seems a bit crazy but there are situations where the world really does run into this level of data. Yes, it’s comical, but heading back to the previous comparisons: to get to just a single EB would take 763 billion floppy disks or 1.5 billion CD-ROM discs. Can you imagine?

Some more mind-bending thoughts around exabytes:

Way back in 2010, the internet was already handling 21 EB per month. Almost 11 million movies in 4K format would fit comfortably inside a 1 EB storage device. A single EB could hold the entire Library of Congress 3,000 times over. A gram of DNA can hold 490 EB, at least in theory. Let that sink in for a minute.

Now for the math: a single EB holds 1,024 PB or 1,048,576 TB. That’s over 1 quintillion bytes! We had to look up quintillion – yes, it’s a number!

HOPE YOU GET IT NOW

Nigerian Army Commence Exercise Crocodile Smile II In Lagos, Ogun

The Nigerian Army has launched its 2017 training operations tagged Exercise Crocodile Smile II, in Lagos and Ogun states, areas covered by troops of 81 Division.

The force disclosed that the exercise commenced in Ogun and Lagos, on October 7, 2017 and will end on October 28, 2017.

The exercise could, however, progress to an operation when they start going after criminal elements in those states.

Spokesman of the division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaolu Daudu said in a statement, Monday, that the exercise will also avail troops the opportunity to sharpen combat skills in the conduct of land base as well as joint riverine operation.

The division spokesman reiterated that the exercise may transform into real operations to deal with emerging security challenges such as kidnappings, cultism, armed robbery, pipeline vandalism, and insurgency, among others.

These, he said, were within the division’s area of responsibility.

The army also warned that Exercise Crocodile Smile II is not targeted at any individual or group.

“Law-abiding citizens are advised to go about their normal businesses without fear. Dates and locations of the various humanitarian activities, such as sanitation exercises and free medical interventions will be announced in due course.

“The division also wishes to allay the fears of the public, as they will witness increased movements of troops and equipment during the period.

“They are please requested to cooperate and support us, to ensure the success of the exercise, which is aimed at making the Nigerian army responsive to its constitutional roles,” he said.

» Biafra: IPOB Members Decamping To Other Separatist Groups - Says FMN «

A group, under the umbrella of Federalist Movement of Nigeria has stated that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are decamping to other separatist groups since the court declared it a terrorist group.

The group therefore called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately bring the weight of the law to bear on criminal elements that were hiding under agitation against marginalization to breach the constitution and the extant laws of the land.

FNM made this know via a statement signed by its convener, Emmanuel Ogah and obtained by DAILY POST on Wednesday.

The group said that the call became imperative following reports that many members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have started migrating to other separatist groups that are becoming virulent and could soon continue acts of aggression from where IPOB stopped before the court ordered that it is a terror group.

Ogah said, the Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF) led by one Benjamin Igwe Onwuka, having been swelled in membership by defecting IPoB members, is now ramping up its purveyance of hate speech and incitement to violence in the fashion of the terrorist group.

He said, “Onwuka, speaking as BZF leader, is calling for attacks on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) – Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai and the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, including threatening them with trial at the International Criminal Court on a shallow basis.

“Onwuka, who clearly forgot that only those who have wronged the people will go to prison, must be reminded that history would acknowledge Alhaji Lai Mohammed and General Buratai as heroes especially in the way they discharged their sacred responsibility of upholding good governance in Nigeria and by extension in Africa.

“Much as Onwuka’s BZF and other miscreants are angry that the Nigerian Army has tamed them and prevented them from continuing to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens or to continue their regime of criminality, they must realize that no country gives free passes to terrorists, extremists, secessionists and separatists to oppress the law-abiding populations.

“Onwuka, BZF, and other separatists have the penchant for pegging their ill-conceived demand on the notion that they can get other nations to interfere in the affairs of Nigeria. This rabble must therefore be schooled to understand that responsible leaders deal head on with criminality irrespective of the barrage of propaganda and sponsored outcry by criminals and their backers.

“We recommend the words of Detective Chief Superintendent Martin Snowden, the head of counter-terrorism policing in North East England, to the Federal Government, Biafra separatists and terrorists alike. Snwoden said of the arrests: “Those who promote extreme views are looking to divide our communities and spread hatred. This will not be tolerated and those who do so must be brought to justice.”
The group urged the government of Nigerian and it’s military to pay no heed to the threats from those they tagged as misguided elements that think agitation for restructuring or secession confers immunity for breaking the law.

Biafra: Abaribe Denies Being Queried By Senate Over Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB

The Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has denied that he was questioned by the Senate over his involvement with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Abaribe also alleged that some persons are attempting to create conflicts, between South-Eastern legislators and their Northern counterparts.
He stated this while speaking on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.

“This morning Mr President, I was surprised to find ‘IPOB: senators query Abaribe over Kanu’s bail’. Mr President we have always said in this floor that anything the presiding officer says in the closed-door session that is the sum total of our discussion,” Abaribe said.

“And I remember yesterday that three points were made as a result of our discussion, which was Nigeria’s unity and effort by this senate to make sure we help in bringing peace to this country. The headline that purports to say that this is what happened in our closed-door session which of course did not happen does not in any way advance the course of peace in this country.

“My constituents have been worried, they have called me and they have been asking me and I have told them that it is not true and I will bring it up on the floor and ask the entire senate to please help us to ask the newspaper to produce whoever gave them this information.
“The senate does not query any of its members, that is the first place where they failed in casting this headline because each senator knows what we discussed and what came out at the end of it.

“I wish to be given the opportunity to lay this newspaper and ask this senate to please look at the attempt at driving a wedge between the south-east senators and the northern senators, because it was said here that the northern senators made a demand for which the south-east senators reluctantly agreed.

“Some people are bent on making sure that there is no peace but I know that God will not allow them.”

Abaribe was one of the sureties who secured the bail granted IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

10 Reasons The Whites Hate Nigerians By Aroms Aigbehi

10 Things That White People Don’t Like About Nigerians:

I wrote this because of the English hostess that was very frustrated about flying to Nigeria. A lot of negative and hostile comments have been directed towards her and I tend to sympathize with that young lady. Yes, she could have said it different but she was frustrated. She may have told her boss several times that she doesn’t want to fly to Nigeria but she had to, so she snapped. I don’t know.

However, this is the list I know from my white family and friends having been married to a white person for 27 years. Maybe you know more to help bridge the cultural gap. So next time you meet white people try to avoid these behaviors that might be acceptable in Nigeria:

1: Calling a white person an Oyinbo pepe is not good. It is as bad to them as calling a black person a Nigger by the white person.

2: Inferiority complex towards the white race. Most white people hates it when Africans treat them with over respect. This annoys my wife the most.

3: Most Nigerian knows everything. Never day I don't know the answer to a question when asked. Rather, give very wrong answers. They appreciate it when you just say, I don’t know.

4: Coming late to a meeting or to any appointment.

5: Over dressing up. White people prefers beautify and moderate dressing. If you visit white people overdressed they are embarrassed and are not amused but will tolerate you. But our people don't know this because we want to impress them.

6: Praying over everything but not do what is within your power to change the situation.

7: Loitering in the day time. Basically hanging around gisting and not getting anything done.

8: Don’t say please when you ask for something and thank you at the end of asking for something, when something is giving to you even when it is your right, but rather command with, give me this and give me that. Rather, it is please can I have a piece of chocolate.

9: Not showing compassion to fellow Africans. Think about the 419 scammers or marry for papers or looters.

10: Always calling people by their nicknames. So you have in a family, the Chairman, The Oldman and the Governor. That is how we lost the name of one of my uncles. We always called him Teacher. After he and all his siblings died nobody remembered his name.

The majority leader of the Imo state House of Assembly, Mr. Lugard Osuji, yesterday, confirmed this to Vanguard in Owerri.
Investigations by , Vanguard, revealed that the event which was tagged special session would among other issues deliberate and take a decisive stand on the issue of Nigeria’s unity.
Also to be discussed was the plethora of challenges causing underdevelopment in Nigeria, as well as the agitations by pro Biafra supporters. The issue of hate speech would also be discussed.

The speaker of Imo state House of Assembly, Mr Acho Ihim, said: We are going to talk about the very prevalent and precarious situation Nigeria finds itself, emanating from all parts of Nigeria, including the issues of kidnappings and killings.”

Top 7 Blue Collar Jobs Unemployed Nigerian Graduates Should Consider

Over the last few years, we have witnessed steady job losses, and the trend keeps getting higher. This has resulted to having lots of unemployed Nigerian graduates, who either never had a job or lost them after a while.

The need to acquire a skill outside of your job expertise has been over flogged, and those who have visions have keyed into the idea. There are lot of promising blue collar jobs out there, but the issue is having the skill to start up one.

Blue collar jobs are jobs that require more of physical energy, than mental energy jobs (White Collar). It doesn’t in no way mean that one pays more than the other. In recent cases, we have seen blue collar workers living comfortably more than the white collar counterparts.

Just to keep you abreast, these are some of the blue collar jobs that should earn you a decent living as an unemployed Nigerian graduate.

Signage Business

As the number of start-ups and rebranding of various firms are on the increase, so is the demand for people with Branding and Signage skills. Remember the saying that “you must start small?” It doesn’t apply to those in the Signage and Branding business. It is always a big hit right from when you land a contract till you execute it. Produce quality, and you end up employing first class students as your employees.

Drivers

“Oh No!!” must have been the first exclamation that came out from you as soon as you saw it. The average Nigerian fresh graduate earns about 30,000 Naira. This is about 970 Naira per day.

An average Driver in any capacity earns a starting salary of 50k per month. Wouldn’t you rather compromise pride for a few months and get those cars on the road! Depending on your agreement with the car owner, places like Lagos would see you earning above 4, 000 Naira daily – how many firms pay such to graduates?

Electricians

The closet idea to who an Electrician is might be given as someone who studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering – hell no! Majority of Electrical Engineers in Nigeria can design a simple electric circuit, which has given major artisans the space to operate freely. As the number of houses being built is on the increase, Electricians are having a field day in raking in thousands from various contracts. Who cares about an educational degree, when I go to cash out my cheque?

Caterers

Food – somethingthat gives us joy in Nigeria. From child dedication to parties to celebrations and others, the only common thing is that we are all eating. No matter the nature of the economy, celebrations must happen and people must eat. The beneficiaries of such celebrations are those who prepare the dishes, eat and still receive bank alerts for cooking and eating.

Construction Workers

I categorized it everyone found in a construction site under the above heading. They are get fair amount of cash for making sure the building is erected. Millions are being spent daily in erecting buildings in Nigeria, and it ends up in the pockets of these guys.

Roofers, Masons, Painters, and every other person found within the site. The average daily pay differs, but believe me that it is higher than what the government or private firms pay most graduates.

Real Estate Agents

Ever thought of making your first Million in just a month? This job gives you that opportunity. It is all GREEN in the real estate business. If you can’t be the landlord of the house, you can become the agent for the house.

Real Estate agents are making a huge killing in Nigeria, and graduates without a job yet should consider this sector!!

It is all GREEN and looks like being GREEN for so many years to come. No matter your location, selling, leasing and renting out houses are a low key way to rake in thousands of Naira just in day.

Hardware Engineers

Glad you are about to know that Hardware Repairs is the new goldmine. There are hundreds of people every day with several laptop faults, and they need technicians to fix them.

Not just that; companies are in need of experienced Engineers, who will take up the job role of maintaining, Troubleshooting, and repairing their computer installations. The question now is “Who will do the job among thousands of graduates looking for jobs or those who are underpaid?”

If you are an unemployed Nigerian graduate still waiting and hoping for a job to come, you should take the bull by the horn. There are several skills you can pick up today and make money like by doing things you love doing.

Bye, till we meet again!
