Wife of Edo state Governor-elect, Mrs Betsy Obaseki has lauded the efforts of the Deputy Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Uyinmwen Ativie, for her sustained intervention in educational initiatives saying "it is the dream of the Governor-elect to give the Edo child the best education".
Besides, Mrs. Betsy who hailed the legislator for impacting on rural children described the gesture as very uncommon and one that touches lives directly.
Speaking at the presentation of boarding materials to two pupils;
Master Abuedefe Ayevbosa and Miss Abviwa Asemota who recently emerged
best candidates from among 90 other participants in the common entrance
exam to Federal Government colleges said she is particularly elated and
glad for the children.
Her words: " I am so impressed with the processes that culminated in their emergence. I am a product of unity school many years ago. This is a sustainable intervention. This is what my husband and I want to add to governance. We want to change the state for the good of our children.
"A child foundation is very important most especially from the primary school. Education still remains the best legacy any parent can leave behind for his or her children. Once they are fortified enough; educational wise, every other thing follow suits in their lives", she stated.
"I am proud of these children and their teachers who took special interest in them ensuring that they come out in flying colours. This is something to write home about. I feel proud of you".
She, however, gave an instance of her very good friend in Porthacourt who asked to know why there are so many Edo people in Nigeria Liquify Natural Gas, (NLNG) most especially from UNIBEN, and, they even come top performers always.
Mrs. Betsy said, "they are most often children from poor homes and there is need to expose them earlier to better opportunities. We must continue to support children from rural areas most especially indegent students. Some of them are bright and but lack basic necessities of live. Once some of these children are exposed enough by acquiring the culture, attitude, behaviour and other positive traits of their peers they become a better citizens of the society".
